A lot of times, the back rank can be attacked or guarded using the X-ray tactic. In this chess lesson, GM Avetik shows various chess examples based on this tactical idea.

One of the examples is taken from the classic game of Yuri Averbakh. In that, White manages to weave a forced mating net around the Black King using the weakened back rank. Black was unable to defend it because the Bishop covered the mating squares through an x-ray.

We will soon be launching a course on Tactical Mastery and Tactical Patterns. When it’s launched, it will be available on our course page 👇
